I took the stances I did because of party loyalty. My moral beliefs conflicted with the Democratic Party's on some issues, but since I was surrounded by Republicans I held firm. I have never been a follower, and will never be, in the world of United States politics. The two party system so integral to checks and balance depends on people who will lead. I led support for some issues I drastically disagreed with. I did it because I never forgot about the connivance and trickery of the "November Surprise" that led to the ouster of former President James Carter from office at the close of the hostage crisis in Tehran.
